Colon first NL pitcher to 8 wins; Mets edge Marlins

May 31, 2015 - 11:22 PM Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Ruben Tejada snapped a seventh-inning tie with an RBI double, and the New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 4-3 Sunday afternoon to salvage the finale of a three-game series at Citi Field.

Wilmer Flores hit a solo home run for New York, while Bartolo Colon became the first National League pitcher to eight wins and Jeurys Familia recorded a five-out save.

Colon (8-3), who matched Seattle's Felix Hernandez for the MLB lead in victories, gave up three runs on six hits in seven innings and helped his own cause with an RBI double.

Justin Bour had a solo home run for Miami, which was seeking to sweep a three- game series against the Mets in New York for the first time since Sept. 8-10, 2009.

Marlins starter David Phelps allowed three runs -- two earned -- on four hits over six innings, retiring the final 10 batters he faced before he was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the seventh.

Steve Cishek (1-5) entered from the bullpen with the game tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the inning and gave up a leadoff single to Juan Lagares, who stole second base.

After Cishek intentionally walked Curtis Granderson -- the only free pass issued in the game -- with two outs, Tejada hit a fly ball over the head of Christian Yelich in left field to score Lagares.

When Miami's Martin Prado hit a one-out single in the eighth, Mets manager Terry Collins summoned Familia. Prado went to third on a two-out single by Bour, but pinch-hitter Jeff Baker hit a tapper back to Familia to end the threat.

Familia then pitched around a two-out single by Marcell Ozuna in the ninth to earn his 15th save.

"He loves to pitch," Collins said about Familia. "He walked up to me before the game and he said, 'Get me in there.'"

The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the first on an error by the first baseman Bour, who had a Flores grounder go through his legs. The ball went into right field and scored Lucas Duda, who was hit by a pitch with two outs and advanced to second on a Daniel Murphy single.

Miami tied it in the second on a fielder's choice by Yelich that scored Ichiro Suzuki, who singled and went to third on a perfectly executed hit-and-run with Donovan Solano.

New York regained the lead in the bottom of the inning on the second extra- base hit of Colon's career. After Anthony Recker singled with one out, Colon initially tried to drop down a bunt. However, a sacrifice was not necessary because Recker moved up on a wild pitch. The veteran pitcher then hit a liner to center that got past Suzuki and rolled to the wall.

A two-out blast to left field by Flores gave the Mets a 3-1 lead in the third.

"It's a tough position for our hitters every time I go out there and put us in a hole early," Phelps said.

The Marlins were able to erase the two-run deficit.

Yelich doubled to begin the fifth, went to third on Phelps' sac bunt and scored on a groundout by Jhonatan Solano. Bour homered to center in the sixth to even things up at 3-3.

Game Notes

Miami second baseman Dee Gordon went 2-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to nine games ... Bour has homered in each of his last three games ... The Marlins were 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.
