Glaus continues hot start, Blue Jays win

Apr 12, 2007 - 5:06 AM TORONTO (Ticker) -- The Toronto Blue Jays rode the hot bats of Troy Glaus and Aaron Hill against the Kansas City Royals.

Glaus homered and Hill drove in three runs as the Blue Jays pounded out 12 hits en route to a 7-4 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

Glaus doubled in the third inning and hit his second homer of the season - a solo blast in the sixth inning off Royals starter Jorge De La Rosa - to bump his average to .348 (8-for-23). Hill notched three hits to raise his average to .387 (12-for-31).

"It was a big win for us," Hill said. "(The offense) is working right now and we're going to keep doing what we're doing. We're comfortable and hopefully we can continue to swing the bats well."

Toronto jumped on De La Rosa (0-1) for five runs - four earned - and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings. The 26-year-old lefthander was chased after allowing three hits in the sixth inning.

"I made a couple mistakes," De La Rosa said. "I left a lot of pitches up in the zone and (Toronto) hit them. They have a good lineup and a very good team."

Gustavo Chacin (1-0) pitched well enough for Toronto to earn the win, surrendering five hits and three runs in five-plus innings. Chacin struck out four and walked one, leaving in the top of the sixth despite having thrown just 79 pitches.

"I felt great today," Chacin said. "I threw a lot of strikes, put the ball in play and kept the game close. The bullpen did a great job for us and I'm happy we got the win."

B.J. Ryan struck out one in a perfect ninth inning to earn his third save.

"We kept scoring but (Toronto) kept scoring too," Kansas City manager Buddy Bell said. "We just couldn't get a goose egg after we scored a run or two. It sucks a lot of the energy out of you when you're trying to come back in a game."

Alex Rios doubled in two runs in the sixth inning and has recorded a hit in each game this season.

"I know our team is going to score a lot of runs," Rios said. "It took us a little while to get to see (De La Rosa's) pitches, but after that we got into a rhythm and kept on hitting."

David DeJesus doubled and homered for the Royals, who dropped four of their last five games.

"We have a little sting right now that we're going through," said DeJesus, who posted his sixth multi-hit effort in his last seven games. "We've just got to stay positive and keep working through it."
