Royals-Indians opener rained out

May 3, 2008 - 12:35 AM CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Friday's opener of the three-game series between the Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Royals was postponed due to rain.

The game has yet to be rescheduled.

The teams will begin their abbreviated two-game set Saturday, when ace C.C. Sabathia (1-4, 7.88 ERA) starts for the Indians. The 27-year-old lefthander got off to a terrible start this season, allowing 27 runs in 18 innings while posting an 0-3 record in his first four starts.

But the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner returned to his dominant form over his last two outings, yielding just one run and eight hits in 14 innings with 19 strikeouts.

Kansas City counters with Luke Hochevar (1-1, 5.91), who was called up from the minors on April 20 after Hideo Nomo was designated for assignment. The rookie righthander surrendered one run and six hits in six innings en route to his first career win in Monday's 2-1 victory over Toronto.

The Indians swept a three-game series from the Royals last month at Kauffman Stadium.
