Reynolds lifts Diamondbacks past Brewers

Jul 1, 2008 - 6:30 AM PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Mark Reynolds had three hits and drove in three runs to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 6-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday.

Doug Davis (3-3), who was making his eighth start since returning to action following thyroid surgery, gave up three runs and five hits in 5 2/3 innings to pick up the win.

Brandon Lyon recorded two strikeouts in a perfect ninth for his 17th save in 20 chances.

"Doug pitched great," Arizona manager Doug Melvin said. "Maybe not as good as in previous games but we finally rewarded him with a win."

Stephen Drew had two doubles and Augie Ojeda tripled and singled for the National League West leaders, who were coming off a 2-7 road trip.

Dave Bush (4-8) was staked to a quick 2-0 lead but could not hold it and took the loss. He allowed five runs and nine hits in five innings to snap a two-start win streak.

"I was fighting myself all night. I had to work harder than I should in order to make some of threw pitches I made," Bush said. "There were definitely a few I didn't make and paid for eventually.

"This is the worse I felt in a while. I felt that I made a pretty good adjustment after the first inning. It kind of snowballed in the fifth. A couple of bloopers, the ball that Reynolds hit, if there was one pitch I would want back the whole night I would want that one."

Milwaukee took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first but Arizona answered right back in the bottom of the frame on an RBI groundout by Justin Upton and a run-scoring double from Reynolds.

"The way we were playing and getting down 2-0 in the first, sometimes that can deflate you but we came right back in the first and scored a couple of runs," Melvin said. "You feel a little bit better about your self and we added on after that."

The Diamondback took the lead with a three-run fifth, capped by another RBI double by Reynolds. He added his 17th home run of the season in the seventh to make it 6-3.

"We swung at some good pitches and put some runs together but it is just one win," Reynolds said. "We are still in first place believe it or not and being down early we don't panic. There was plenty of time left and Augie led off with the triple that got us going. Then we got a couple of big hits.

"I am a streaky hitter, I got a couple of hanging breaking balls tonight and I was able to square them up good. I just want to try and build on it confidence wise, go out there tomorrow and do the same thing."

J.J. Hardy went 3-for-5 with an RBI and run scored for the Brewers, who have lost four of their last five games.
