Reds look for sweep of Giants
Aug 31, 2008 - 8:06 AM San Francisco (59-76) at Cincinnati (60-76) 12:35 p.m. EDTCINCINNATI (Ticker) -- In search of their first series sweep since early July, the Cincinnati Reds go for three straight against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.
Since winning four straight against the Washington Nationals from July 3-6, the Reds have won three consecutive games only once.
The Reds send Bronson Arroyo (12-10) to the mound, fresh off the team's first complete game of the season in his last start. The righthander went the distance, allowing one run, five hits and two walks, striking out three in Cincinnati's 2-1 victory over the Houston Astros.
Cincinnati has taken 4-of-5 against the Giants this season, tallying double-digit runs in three of those wins.
San Francisco will turn to Matt Cain (8-10, 3.55) to salvage the series finale. Cain is 3-3 over his last nine starts, despite not allowing more than four runs in any of those starts.
The righthander lost a 4-2 decision to the Colorado Rockies in his last start, allowing three runs, six hits and four walks over six innings. The home loss was his first in his last five starts in San Francisco, with the last defeat coming July 18 against the Milwaukee Brewers.
