Roberts, Orioles seek series win over Cubs
Jun 25, 2008 - 1:08 PM Baltimore (39-36) at Chicago (48-29) 8:05 pm. EDTCHICAGO (Ticker) -- Brian Roberts and the surprising Baltimore Orioles aim for a second straight win over the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday in the second contest of a three-game interleague series.
Roberts, whose name was brought up in trade rumors with the Cubs this past offseason, had three hits including an RBI triple that proved to be the difference in a 7-5 victory on Tuesday.
The Orioles' first trip to Wrigley Field was nerve-wrecking as closer George Sherrill loaded the bases and then struck out the side in the ninth to end the Cubs' 14-game home winning streak.
Chicago was trying for its first 15-game home winning streak since 1935, but Cubs' third baseman Aramis Ramirez said he wasn't too disappointed.
"We knew we weren't going to win every game at home this year," Ramirez said.
Ted Lilly (7-5, 4.71 ERA) will look to help the Cubs start a new streak. The lefthander is unbeaten in his last three starts, and has allowed just eight runs in his last 26 2/3 innings.
The Orioles, who have won seven of 10, will counter with Brian Burres (6-5, 5.24), who is seeking a third straight win.
