Giants-Brewers Preview

Jun 28, 2009 - 4:51 AM By JEFF MEZYDLO STATS Senior Writer

San Francisco (39-33) at Milwaukee (39-34), 2:05 p.m. EDT

Now that the Milwaukee Brewers have secured their first winning home series in a month, they can focus on completing their first sweep at Miller Park during the same span.

After a comeback victory in their latest contest, the Brewers look to finish off a sweep of the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

Prince Fielder hit a three-run homer and capped a three-run, ninth-inning rally with a game-winning double off Brian Wilson to give Milwaukee (40-34) a 7-6 victory over San Francisco on Saturday.

"(Wilson) is a great closer and to be able to come back like that is a good thing," Fielder said of the Brewers, who trailed 4-0 after five innings. "The odds of us coming back, I wouldn't say were slim, but real low.

"(It) gives us a good feeling."

The NL Central-leading Brewers are 20-16 at home, but 4-7 at Miller Park since sweeping Cincinnati there May 29-31. Another big effort from Fielder gives Milwaukee a chance for a similar result.

Fielder has 19 homers on the season, and two with six RBIs in his last three games for Milwaukee, which has won three of its last four since losing four in a row.

Corey Hart was hitless in 19 straight at-bats before recording an RBI single in the ninth for Milwaukee. The All-Star from a year ago is batting .115 (3 for 26) in his last seven games.

Jeff Suppan (5-5, 4.65 ERA) looks to avoid a second straight loss for the Brewers on Sunday.

After going 2-0 with a 2.74 ERA in his previous four starts, Suppan allowed seven runs - four earned - and nine hits in five innings of a 7-3 loss to Minnesota on Tuesday.

"I always don't evaluate my performance on the line, because you may make a great pitch and sometimes great pitches get hit and sometimes bad pitches get popped up," Suppan told the Brewers' official Web site. "It's just one of those things where you regroup and you get ready for (the next start)."

The veteran right-hander is 3-5 with a 5.64 in nine starts versus San Francisco, which is expected to counter with rookie Ryan Sadowski.

The 26-year-old right-hander will make his major league debut after Jonathan Sanchez was recently demoted to the bullpen. Sadowski was 5-2 with a 4.11 ERA in 13 starts for Triple-A Fresno before being called up.

Pablo Sandoval hit a pair of solo homers and finished with three hits Saturday for the Giants (39-34), who opened their 10-game road trip by taking two of three from Bay Area rival Oakland.

"When you have a chance to put a dagger in them, you have to do it," manager Bruce Bochy said of the Giants, who scored twice off Trevor Hoffman in the top of the ninth to break a 4-4 tie. "We've had a hard time doing that this season."

Sandoval, who's among the NL leaders with a .340 average, has homered three times in this series and reached base safely either by a hit or walk in each of the last 22 games. He's 8 for 19 (.421) against Milwaukee this season.
