Maddux takes the mound in pivotal game for Dodgers

Sep 26, 2006 - 2:53 PM LA Dodgers (82-74) at Colorado (74-82) 8:35 pm EDT

DENVER (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Greg Maddux for starts like this.

With six games remaining in their regular season, the Dodgers turn to the future Hall of Famer in the opener of a three-game set with the Colorado Rockies.

Los Angeles currently sits in a tie with Philadelphia atop the wild card standings. The Dodgers have won three of their last four games and hope to continue that trend behind the 40-year-old Maddux (13-14, 4.25 ERA).

A four-time Cy Young Award winner, Maddux won his first three decisions with the Dodgers after coming over in a trade with the Chicago Cubs on July 31. However, he is just 1-3 in his last four outings, including a 6-4 defeat to Pittsburgh on Thursday in which he yielded three runs in five innings.

Los Angeles is 12-4 this season against Colorado, which gives the ball to righthander Jason Jennings (9-12, 3.65). He has won his last two starts despite allowing eight runs in 10 1/3 innings over that stretch.

Jennings is 6-7 with a 3.95 ERA in 18 lifetime outings against the Dodgers, including a 1-3 mark with a 5.81 ERA in five games this year.

The Rockies dropped a 6-3 decision to the Atlanta Braves on Thursday before winning the final three games of the weekend set.
