Morris, Giants try to rebound from tough stretch

Sep 26, 2006 - 3:18 PM Arizona (74-82) at San Francisco (75-81) 10:15 pm EDT

SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- Matt Morris is not the only reason the San Francisco Giants have wilted in the race for the postseason over the last couple weeks.

Yet, he has been one of the biggest and will try to rebound from his recent struggles when the Giants continue a three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Morris (10-15, 5.09 ERA) has lost his last four starts in unimpressive fashion, working 22 1/3 innings with a 9.27 ERA.

The righthander's last outing epitomized how bad his struggles have been, as he gave up nine runs in 4 1/3 innings of a 9-4 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday.

The Diamondbacks send Brandon Webb (16-7, 2.95) to the mound.

Unlike Morris, Webb has been steady recently, going 2-1 in his last three starts with a 1.44 ERA.

The righthander is coming off a loss at the San Diego Padres, allowing three runs and five hits in seven innings of a 3-1 setback on Thursday.

Eric Byrnes homered and Conor Jackson smacked a three-run blast in the fourth to help lift the Diamondbacks to a 7-1 victory in Monday's opener.

San Francisco, which has lost its last five games, was eliminated from the National League wild card race with the loss to Arizona.
