Padilla seeks career-high 15th win

Sep 29, 2006 - 1:27 PM Texas (79-80) at Seattle (76-83) 10:05 pm EDT

SEATTLE (Ticker) - Vicente Padilla has one more chance to make his first season in the American League his winningest as a major leaguer.

Two days after his 29th birthday, Padilla makes a second attempt at a career-high 15th win as the Texas Rangers play Friday's opener of a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners.

Padilla (14-10, 4.44 ERA) recorded his 14th win of the season on September 17, tying the career high he originally set in 2002 and matched the following campaign. In his first try at win No. 15 on Saturday, the righthander surrendered six runs and eight hits in five innings of a 6-3 loss to Cleveland.

Prior to being acquired from Philadelphia over the winter, Padilla made 194 appearances in the National League. Four of those outings - including two starts - came against Seattle, in which the native of Nicaragua went 0-3 with a 7.53 ERA.

In his first start against the Mariners as a member of the Rangers, Padilla gave up one run and just three hits in seven innings of an eventual 4-3 victory on April 20.

Seattle counters with rookie Ryan Feierabend (0-1, 3.75), who is making his fourth major league appearance and second start. In his first career start Sunday, the 21-year-old lefthander allowed five runs and eight hits - including three homers - in six innings of a 12-7 loss to the Chicago White Sox.
