Cubs close out another disappointing season

Oct 1, 2006 - 4:15 PM Colorado (76-85) at Chicago Cubs (65-96) 2:20 pm EDT

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Another long and cold offseason starts for the Chicago Cubs and their fans on Monday.

However, the Cubs will try to finish another disappointing season on a high note when they host the Colorado Rockies in the season finale on Sunday.

Chicago gives the ball to Wade Miller (0-2, 3.57 ERA), who was decent in his last outing against the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. The righthander pitched five scoreless innings - allowing only three hits - but did not factor in Cincinnati's 5-4 victory.

Ubaldo Jimenez (0-0, 0.00 ERA) makes his first major league start for the Rockies. In his only appearance this season, the righthander pitched one inning on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, giving up two hits but not factoring into an 11-4 defeat.

Jeff Baker hit a two-run single in the 14th inning to lift the Rockies to an 11-9 victory on Saturday. Brad Hawpe had three RBI for Colorado, which has won its last three road games.

Ryan Theriot led the Cubs with three RBI.

Chicago finished fourth in the National League Central last season at 79-83 while the Rockies ended at 67-95, good for fifth in the West.
