Marlins look to continue hot start without Ramirez
Apr 9, 2007 - 2:28 PM Milwaukee (3-3) at Florida (4-2) 7:05 pm EDTMIAMI (Ticker) -- The Florida Marlins' last win may have proved costly.
The Marlins hope to continue their hot start without shortstop Hanley Ramirez when they open a three-game home series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday.
The reigning NL Rookie of the Year, Ramirez left Sunday's 6-4 win over Philadelphia in the first inning with a stiff right hamstring. He will be re-evaluated Monday before the game, but likely will not play.
Anibal Sanchez, who takes the mound Monday for the Marlins, roughed up in his first outing, allowing four runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings against Washington.
The 23-year-old faced the Brewers twice during his 2006 rookie campaign, posting a 1-0 mark while surrendering three runs in 13 innings.
The Brewers will counter with off season acquisition Jeff Suppan. The veteran righthander, who signed a four-year, $42 million contract in the offseason, pitched well in his season debut, allowing two runs in seven innings.
Suppan has been tough on Florida during his career, posting a 3-2 record with a 3.04 ERA in nine starts.
The Marlins have won nine straight over Milwaukee.
