Devil Rays open seven-game road trip against Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) -- The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have been historically bad on the road in their history.

The Devil Rays hope to open their seven-game road trip on a positive note Monday when they visit the Texas Rangers.

Tampa Bay set a franchise record for road futility last season, dropping 61 of 81 road contests.

The Devil Rays send Edwin Jackson to the mound Monday looking to move above .500 on the road against the Texas Rangers, who swept the Devil Rays last season in Arlington.

Jackson will be making his first start of the season after allowing 22 earned runs in 36 1/3 innings last season - one start. The 23-year-old righthander earned a spot in the rotation by posting a 1.74 ERA in spring training.

Texas will counter with righthander Brandon McCarthy. The 23-year-old was roughed up in his first start, yielding 10 hits in six innings of a 5-3 loss to the Angels on Wednesday.

McCarthy has struggled against Tampa Bay, allowing 10 runs in eight innings.
