Wright, Robertson square off at Camden Yards
Apr 10, 2007 - 1:23 PM Detroit (3-3) at Baltimore (3-4) 7:05 pm EDTBALTIMORE (Ticker) -- The Baltimore Orioles will need more out of Jaret Wright if they hope to contend in the American League East.
Wright takes the mound for the Orioles in the second game of a three-game set against the Detroit Tigers at Camden Yards.
Wright (0-1, 15.43 ERA) was acquired from the New York Yankees in the offseason and struggled in his first start. The veteran righthander lasted just 2 1/3 innings, surrendering six runs - four earned - and four hits in a loss last Wednesday at Minnesota.
Wright has fared well against the Tigers in the past, posting a 5-4 record with a 3.39 ERA in 11 career starts.
However, Tigers slugger Magglio Ordonez is 8-for-18 with a homer against Wright.
Detroit will counter with lefthander Nate Robertson, who picked up a win in his first start last Wednesday against Toronto. The 29-year-old surrendered two runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Robertson (1-0, 3.18) owns a 2-1 record with a 3.89 ERA in five starts against the Orioles. He will have to be careful with Baltimore All-Star shortstop Miguel Tejada, who is 5-for-13 with two homers in his career against Robertson.
Baltimore won the first game of the series behind 7 2/3 strong innings from Daniel Cabrera, who struck out five while surrendering just two runs in a 6-2 victory on Monday. Brian Roberts, Melvin Mora and Tejada each had two hits and an RBI.
