Cubs hope to avert sweep against Astros
Apr 11, 2007 - 1:45 PM Houston (3-5) at Chicago Cubs (3-5) 2:20 pm EDTCHICAGO (Ticker) -- The Chicago Cubs spent a lot of money improving their lineup. Their most expensive acquisition needs to get going.
Alfonso Soriano hopes to shake out of his slump on Wednesday when the Cubs hope to avert a three-game sweep against the Houston Astros.
Signed to an eight-year, $136 million contract in the offseason, Soriano is hitting .200 (7-for-35) with zero RBI. He was hitless in three at-bats in a 4-2 loss to the Astros on Tuesday.
Soriano is 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his career against Houston's Wandy Rodriguez, who will start on Wednesday.
Rodriguez (0-1, 3.86 ERA) lost in his first start last Friday, despite allowing just three runs and four hits against the Cardinals. The lefthander owns a 2-3 career mark in five starts against Chicago with a 4.70 ERA.
The Cubs counter with Rich Hill (1-0, 1.29), who allowed just one run in seven innings against Milwaukee in his first start of the season.
No one has shouted yet.
