Dodgers and Rockies conclude three-game series

Apr 11, 2007 - 2:26 PM Colorado (4-4) at LA Dodgers (5-3) 10:10 pm EDT

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Another pitching duel could be on tap when the Los Angeles Dodgers host the Colorado Rockies in the finale of a three-game series.

If their first starts of the season are any indication, the Rockies' Jason Hirsh and the Dodgers' Brad Penny could keep scoring down at Dodger Stadium for the second consecutive game.

The Dodgers beat the Rockies, 2-1, on Tuesday. Russell Martin's sacrifice fly in the eighth inning off reliever Byung-Hyun Kim plated the winning run.

In his debut with the Rockies, Hirsh (1-0, 1.35 ERA) held the San Diego Padres to one run in 6 2/3 innings in a 4-3 victory. The righthander was acquired in the offseason from the Houston Astros. Hirsh started nine games for Houston last season, going 3-4 with a 6.04 ERA.

Penny (1-0, 1.29) also was impressive in his season debut. The All-Star righthander, who won 16 games last season, held the San Francisco Giants scoreless for seven innings last Friday. In the eighth inning, he lost the shutout due to defensive lapses.

Penny has pitched well against the Rockies throughout his career, posting a 10-2 record and a 2.76 ERA in 16 starts.

Los Angeles second baseman Jeff Kent has 504 career doubles and is tied for 41st on the all-time list with Roberto Alomar - one behind Tony Perez and two behind Babe Ruth.

Rockies first baseman Todd Helton needs just two RBI to reach 1,000 for his career.
