Verlander starts for Tigers in rubber game

BALTIMORE (Ticker) -- The Detroit Tigers rode their young arms all the way to the World Series in 2006.

Justin Verlander makes the second start of his sophomore campaign Wednesday when the Tigers meet the Baltimore Orioles in the rubber game of their three-game series at Camden Yards.

Verlander (0-0, 0.00 ERA) won 17 games and the rookie of the year award last season. The 24-year-old righthander allowed just one unearned run and two hits in six innings last Friday against Kansas City but did not factor in the decision.

The Orioles will counter with Adam Loewen (1-0, 3.60). The 23-year-old lefthander picked up a win in his first start, allowing two runs and five hits in five innings last Friday against the New York Yankees.

Baltimore won the first game of the series, 6-2, before Detroit bounced back with a 3-1 win on Tuesday night.
