Trachsel seeks first win of the season
Apr 12, 2007 - 1:30 PM Kansas City (3-6) at Baltimore (3-6) 7:05 pm EDTBALTIMORE (Ticker) -- Steve Trachsel will be looking for some help from his bullpen.
Trachsel seeks his first win with his new team Thursday when the Baltimore Orioles face the Kansas City Royals in the opener of a four-game series.
In his first start of the season against the New York Yankees on Saturday, Trachsel (0-0, 4.05 ERA) allowed three runs and four hits in 6 2/3 innings. He left with the lead, but the Orioles' bullpen gave up seven runs the rest of the way in a 10-7 loss.
Trachsel has struggled in seven career starts against Kansas City, posting an 0-3 record with a 6.21 ERA.
Baltimore's bullpen stumbled in the 12th inning of Wednesday's 4-1 loss to Detroit as Kurt Birkins surrendered a grand slam to Craig Monroe.
Gil Meche (1-1, 4.40) takes the mound for the Royals. After winning his first start of the season, Meche was roughed up for six runs and eight hits over six innings in a 6-5 loss to Detroit on Saturday.
Meche, who signed a five-year, $55 million contract as a free agent in the offseason, was stellar in his Opening Day start against Boston, allowing just one run in 7 1/3 innings.
Baltimore has won the season series from Kansas City in five of the last six seasons, including winning all three games here last year.
