Red Sox open series vs. Lackey, Angels

BOSTON (Ticker) -- After being dominated by one of the best young hurlers in baseball, the Boston Red Sox hope to have an easier time against John Lackey.

The Red Sox look to get their bats going Friday when they face the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the opener of a four-game series.

On Wednesday, the Red Sox managed just one hit against Felix Hernandez in a 3-0 loss to Seattle. Thursday's game was postponed by inclement weather.

Boston aims to rev up its offense against the hard-throwing Lackey (2-0, 0.75 ERA), who has been dominant in two starts this season. But he is just 1-4 with a 5.86 ERA in nine starts against the Red Sox in his career.

Boston will counter with veteran knuckleballer Tim Wakefield (0-1, 1.50). A hard-luck loser in his first start, Wakefield allowed just one earned run and three hits in six innings in a 2-0 setback at Texas on Friday.

The Angels lost two out of three to Cleveland in a series played at Milwaukee's Miller Park due to persistent inclement weather. Orlando Cabrera had three hits and scored both of Anaheim's runs in a 4-2 loss in the series finale on Thursday.
