Tigers look to continue road success against Blue Jays
Apr 15, 2007 - 3:30 PM Detroit (7-4) at Toronto (6-5), 1:07 pm EDTTORONTO (Ticker) -- The Detroit Tigers are getting hits at the right times and relying on their dominating bullpen to win a number of close road contests.
The Tigers go for their third straight series win on the road when they visit the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday in the final game of a four-game set.
Detroit has won six games on the road already this season, none by more than three runs. Closer Todd Jones picked up his sixth save in six chances Sunday, and has yielded just three hits in 6 1/3 innings.
The Tigers picked up the 10-7 win Saturday on Marcus Thames' pinch-hit double off Toronto closer B.J. Ryan that drove in a pair of runs.
Detroit will send lefthander Nate Robertson (2-0, 1.38 ERA) to the mound on Sunday. Robertson has been dominant in his first two starts of the season, including allowing two runs in 5 2/3 innings against the Blue Jays on April 4. He turned in an even better effort Tuesday, surrendering four hits in 7 1/3 shutout innings at Baltimore.
Toronto will counter with righthander Josh Towers. The 30-year-old took a loss in his first start on Tuesday against Kansas City, yielding six runs - three earned - in 5 2/3 innings.
Towers (0-1, 4.76) made the Blue Jay's rotation with a strong spring, despite a 2-10 record with an 8.42 ERA in 2006.
Toronto third baseman Troy Glaus is expected to miss his third straight game with a left heel injury.
