Yankees, A's try to play a game in under 10 innings

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The Oakland Athletics and New York Yankees have played a total of 24 innings in their two games.

Each team's bullpen has been taxed mightily over the weekend, and it will be up to starters Rich Harden and Andy Pettitte to give them a day off when the Athletics host the Yankees in the rubber game of a three game series on Sunday.

Oakland's bullpen has given up just two runs in 12 1/3 innings the past two days, while New York's relievers have yielded two runs in 12 2/3 frames.

Harden (1-1, 1.38 ERA) has been dominating so far this season, picking up a win in his first start with seven scoreless innings and seven strike outs April 4 against Seattle. He surrendered just two runs in six innings Monday, but took the loss against Chicago.

Pettitte (1-0, 1.64) recovered from a rocky first start to throw six shutout frames and earn a win Tuesday at Minnesota.

The veteran lefthander owns an 8-4 career mark against the A's with a 3.18 ERA in 15 starts.

Jason Giambi ended Saturday night's marathon with a solo shot in the top of the 13th inning off Lenny DiNardo.
