Cubs seek second Wrigley Field win
Apr 15, 2007 - 4:06 PM Cincinnati (6-5) at Chicago Cubs (4-6) 2:20 pm EDTCHICAGO (Ticker) -- The Chicago Cubs gave manager Lou Piniella a home win for the first time in four attempts on Saturday. They hope the second one comes sooner than that.
Ted Lilly takes the mound for Chicago in the rubber game of their weekend series against the Cincinnati Reds.
Chicago ownership spent close to $300 million in the offseason to upgrade a team that won just 66 games in 2006.
About $40 million of that went to Lilly (1-0, 2.77 ERA), who has allowed four runs while striking out 14 in 13 innings.
The Reds will counter with Kyle Lohse (0-0, 4.05). The veteran righthander has yet to earn a decision this season, but was on the mound April 5 when Cincinnati claimed a 5-2 win over Chicago. Lohse allowed two runs in six innings in that start.
Lohse struggled in his last outing, allowing four runs and six hits in seven innings against Arizona last Tuesday.
The Cubs got a strong start from youngster Rich Hill, who allowed just three singles in seven innings in a 7-0 win over Cincinnati on Saturday.
