Matsuzaka faces AL East rival for first time

TORONTO (Ticker) -- Daisuke Matsuzaka has made quite an impression in his first two major league starts. He faces an American League East opponent for the first time on Tuesday.

Matsuzaka takes the hill for the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday when they visit the Toronto Blue Jays for their first intradivision series of the season.

The Red Sox paid more than $103 million for the Japanese star, including his posting fee and six-year contract. He has allowed four runs in 14 innings while striking out 14 in a win over Kansas City and a loss against Seattle.

On Sunday, Matsuzaka is slated to pitch against Boston's biggest rival - the New York Yankees.

The Blue Jays will start Gustavo Chacin (1-0, 4.91) on Tuesday. The lefthander is 5-0 in seven career starts against Boston. Chacin has been especially tough against slugger Manny Ramirez, holding the All-Star to a 2-for-11 mark with no extra-base hits.

Chacin picked up his first win of the season last Tuesday against Kansas City, despite yielding three runs in five innings.

The Red Sox outscored the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, 25-3, in a three-game sweep this past weekend.
