Marlins LHP Willis looks to continue April dominance

Apr 18, 2007 - 1:43 PM NY Mets (8-4) at Florida (6-7) 7:05 pm EDT

MIAMI (Ticker) -- Dontrelle Willis is known for starting the season in impressive fashion.

Willis (3-0, 3.32 ERA) takes the mound Wednesday when the Florida Marlins host the New York Mets in the opener of a two-game series.

The 25-year-old lefthander owns a 12-1 career mark in April, including three wins this season. Willis has also dominated the Mets in his career, posting an 11-2 record with a 2.02 ERA in 16 starts.

John Maine will oppose Willis. The 25-year-old righthander has gotten off to a strong start in his second season with the Mets, surrendering just two earned runs in 11 2/3 innings and picking up a win in his first start on April 4.

Maine (1-0, 1.54 ERA) has not pitched since April 9 due to rainouts.

Moises Alou hit a pair of homers in New York's 8-1 win at Philadelphia on Tuesday.

The Marlins have dropped three straight, including a 6-1 loss at Houston on Tuesday.
