Zito looks to keep the Giants on the winning track vs. Diamondbacks

Apr 21, 2007 - 2:32 PM Arizona (10-8) at San Francisco (7-8) 4:05 pm EDT

SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- Barry Zito and the San Francisco Giants started the season as cold as can be, now they are warming up.

Zito was rocked in his first two starts and the Giants started out 1-6, now Zito takes the mound against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday in search of his second straight win in the middle game of a three-game series.

Overall, the Giants are looking for their third straight win, and seventh in nine games.

Russ Ortiz helped the Giants beat his former team, 4-2, by allowing just two runs and eight hits in seven innings in the series opener on Friday night.

Zito (1-2, 5.29 ERA), who signed a seven-year, $126 million dollar free-agent deal in the offseason, allowed 11 runs in his first two starts, both losses. However, on Monday he held the Colorado Rockies to just three hits in six shutout innings at hitter friendly Coors Field for his first win of the season, an 8-0 romp.

The lefthander will be opposed by Edgar Gonzalez (1-1, 5.40), who allowed five runs and nine hits in 6 1/3 innings in a 5-1 loss to Los Angeles on Monday.

The Diamondbacks have hit a rough stretch having lost two in a row and four of their last five games, after winning eight of their previous 10.
