Angels RHP Colon set to make season debut
Apr 21, 2007 - 2:39 PM Seattle (5-7) at LA Angels (7-9) 9:05 pm EDTANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim averted their longest losing streak in six years on Friday. Now they get one of their stars back.
Bartolo Colon makes first start of the season when the Angels host the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night.
The Angels snapped a six-game losing streak with an 8-4 victory here on Friday. They have not lost seven in a row since the 2001 season.
Colon (NR) won the Cy Young Award in 2005 by going 21-8 with a 3.48 ERA. He went 1-5 with a 5.11 ERA in only 10 starts last year before suffering a torn right rotator cuff.
The righthander tossed seven scoreless innings at Class AAA Salt Lake last Sunday. Colon has a career record of 10-8 with a 4.32 ERA against Seattle.
The Mariners, who have lost a season-high four in a row, will send Horacio Ramirez to the mound in hopes of ending their skid. Ramirez (1-0, 1.50 ERA) allowed just one earned run in six innings in a 14-6 win over Texas last Sunday.
Slugger Vladimir Guerrero returned to the Angels Friday after a two-game absence by hitting his fourth homer of the year in the series. Guerrero was hit on the wrist by a fastball from Josh Beckett on Monday and sat out the Angels' next two games.
Los Angeles had managed a total of six runs in four games before erupting on Friday.
