Orioles aim for seventh win in eight games
Apr 21, 2007 - 2:54 PM Toronto (8-8) at Baltimore (9-7) 7:05 pm EDTBALTIMORE (Ticker) -- The Baltimore Orioles look to continue their winning ways when they host the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.
The Orioles have won six of their last seven games, including Friday's 5-4 come-from-behind victory over the Blue Jays. Seven of Baltimore's nine wins have been comeback victories.
Adam Loewen (1-0, 3.95 ERA) gets the start for the Orioles, who are 5-2 at Camden Yards this season. The 6-5 lefthander has just two career starts against the Blue Jays but the numbers are not good - he is 0-1 with an 8.18 ERA (10 earned runs in 11 innings).
The Blue Jays counter with Josh Towers (1-1, 2.03), who was very good in his last start on Sunday against the Detroit Tigers. The righthander allowed an unearned run and three hits over 7 2/3 innings. It was Towers' first win as a starter since May 14.
Toronto's Vernon Wells enjoys facing Baltimore. In 97 career games against the Orioles, Wells is batting .301 with 23 home runs and 71 RBI. The outfielder had a pinch-hit, two-run single in Friday's game.
Baltimore leadoff hitter Brian Roberts is batting just .212 (14-for-66). Melvin Mora leads the Orioles with four home runs and 14 RBI.
