Orioles go for sweep of Blue Jays
Apr 22, 2007 - 2:28 PM Toronto (8-9) at Baltimore (10-7) , 1:35 pm EDTBALTIMORE (Ticker) - The Baltimore Orioles will be after their fourth consecutive win when they host the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday.
Steve Trachsel (0-1, 5.19 ERA) will get the start for the Orioles, who will be going for a three-game series sweep of Toronto. The righthander, who is seeking his first win as a member of the Orioles and his first win at Camden Yards, is 3-0 with a 3.20 ERA in four career starts against the Blue Jays.
Toronto counters with Gustavo Chacin (2-0, 3.57) who was impressive in his last start. The lefthander allowed one run and six hits over 6 2/3 innings in a 2-1 victory against the Boston Red Sox.
Toronto's Frank Thomas, who has hit 13 home runs in 58 games in Baltimore, has hit the ball out of the infield just once in nine at-bats in the first two games of the series.
The Orioles 10-7 record is identical to last season's record through 17 games. Last year's squad, improved to 11-7, but did not get four games over .500 during the remainder of the season.
Jay Payton made his debut for Baltimore in Saturday's game - he entered as a defensive replacement in the eighth inning. Payton, who signed with the Orioles in offseason after spending 2006 with the Oakland Athletics, started the season on the disabled list with a hamstring injury.
