Twins' Ortiz looks for fourth win against Royals

Apr 22, 2007 - 2:39 PM Minnesota (11-6) at Kansas City (5-12), 2:10 pm EDT

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- It's only April but the gap between the Minnesota Twins and the Kansas City Royals is growing already.

Seventeen games into the season, the last-place Royals already find themselves six games behind the Twins in the American League Central Division.

The Royals look to close the gap when they host Minnesota in the finale of a three-game series on Sunday, but it won't be easy. Twins starter Ramon Ortiz (3-0, 2.05 ERA) has looked like a Cy Young Award candidate in his first three starts this season. The righthander has pitched at least seven innings in every start and hasn't allowed more than two runs in a game. That's bad news for the Royals, who are batting .238 as a team this season.

The Royals counter with Jorge De La Rosa (1-1, 4.34), who was 0-3 with a 6.91 ERA in four appearances - three starts - against the Twins last season.

David DeJesus has been the Royals most productive offensive player thus far batting .347 (25-of-72), with three home runs, seven RBI and a team-high 40 total bases.

Minnesota's Torii Hunter has hit in seven consecutive games. During the streak, he is 12-for-32 (.364) with eight doubles, one home run and 10 RBI.

The only blemish in Hunter's recent play is the fact that he was caught stealing in Saturday's victory over the Royals. Prior to that, the Twins were 19-for-19 in stolen base attempts this season.
