Red Sox aim for sixth straight win, face Blue Jays
Apr 23, 2007 - 1:16 PM Toronto (8-10) at Boston (12-5) 7:05 pm EDTBOSTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Red Sox look to run their winning streak to six games Monday when they meet the Toronto Blue Jays in the opener of a two-game series.
Boston enters this series on an emotional high after a three-game sweep of the archrival New York Yankees. The Red Sox overcame a deficit in each contest.
Tim Wakefield (2-1, 1.35 ERA) gets the ball for Boston. The veteran knuckleballer has been the Red Sox most consistant starter this season, allowing just one earned run in each of his three starts.
Wakefield picked up a win last Wednesday against the Blue Jays, yielding one run and four hits in seven innings.
Tomo Ohka (0-2, 7.02) counters for Toronto. The Japanese righthander came up through Boston's organization, making his first 25 starts for the franchise from 1999-2001 before being traded at the deadline in 2001 for closer Ugueth Urbina.
Ohka took the loss last Wednesday, surrendering four runs and four hits - including three homers - in 6 1/3 innings against the Red Sox.
While the Red Sox are rolling, the Blue Jays are mired in a season-high five-game losing streak. They were swept in a three-game series at Baltimore over the weekend.
Boston won two of three game in Toronto last week.
