Mariners look to complete sweep of Rangers

Apr 24, 2007 - 1:34 PM Seattle (6-9) at Texas (8-11) 2:05 pm EDT

ARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) -- A pair of pitchers seeking their first win of the season meet Tuesday as the Texas Rangers host the Seattle Mariners.

Texas' Vicente Padilla (0-3, 6.00) has given the Rangers innings during his last three starts, but it hasn't translated to victories as Texas is 0-4 in games started by the righthander this year. Padilla has pitched at least six innings over his last three starts, allowing 10 earned runs in 19 1/3 innings.

Jarrod Washburn (0-2, 4.42) will take the mound for the Mariners, who snapped a six-game losing streak with a victory here on Monday. The lefthander had three starts against the Rangers last season, going 0-1 with a 3.52 ERA in 15 1/3 innings.

Seattle's Jose Vidro has recorded a hit in 10 of his last 11 games and is batting .382 (13-for-34) during that span.

Ichiro Suzuki had three hits, including a bases-loaded triple, in Monday's win for the Mariners. The right fielder leads the majors in hits since 2003 with 925. Texas shortstop Michael Young is second on that list with 870.

Texas' Hank Blalock hit his first home run of the season on Monday. It is the longest Blalock had gone without a home run to open the season since his rookie campaign in 2002.

The Rangers are batting just .230 as a team.
