Bonds faces Lowe on Tuesday
Apr 24, 2007 - 2:36 PM San Francisco (9-8) at LA Dodgers (13-6) 10:10 pm EDTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- In his quest to eclipse baseball's most hallowed record, Barry Bonds has victimized a lot of pitchers. Derek Lowe is not one of them.
Bonds and the San Francisco Giants look to put an end to their recent struggles against their most hated rival when they visit the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday.
A seven-time National League MVP, Bonds has homered in two straight games and three of his last four for the Giants, who are looking for their sixth straight victory. He has hit six homers this season, giving him 740 in his career and pulling him within 15 of tying Hank Aaron's major league record.
Bonds is hitting .259 (108-for-417) with 28 homers and 78 RBI in 129 games at Dodger Stadium. However, Bonds is 0-for-6 in his career against Lowe (2-2, 4.56 ERA). The righthander has not allowed a homer in six consecutive starts and is 5-0 with a 1.46 ERA in his last six home games.
Lowe is 3-4 with a 3.57 ERA in eight starts against the Giants. In his last start against Colorado on Wednesday, he allowed five runs and eight hits with three walks in 4 2/3 innings of a 7-2 loss.
Matt Morris (2-0, 2.00) will oppose Lowe on Tuesday. The righthander allowed five runs - one earned - with six hits and four walks in 6 2/3 innings of the Giants' 6-5, 12-inning win over St. Louis last Wednesday. The victory started San Francisco on its current win streak.
Morris has allowed five earned runs in each of his last four starts against Los Angeles, going 0-3 in that span. He is 3-5 with a 5.40 ERA in 13 games against the Dodgers overall.
Los Angeles, which has won eight straight against San Francisco, swept the Giants in three games April 6-8 at AT&T Park.
The Dodgers have won four in a row and 12 of the last 13 overall against the Giants at Dodger Stadium.
