Astros look to snap four-game slide
Apr 25, 2007 - 2:14 PM Houston (9-10) at Pittsburgh (8-10) 7:05 pm EDTPITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- The Houston Astros will try to end their four-game losing streak when they host the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday.
Along with losing four straight, the Astros have also lost all four meetings with the Pirates this season.
Paul Maholm tossed a three-hitter and All-Star Jason Bay went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs as the Pirates coasted to a 3-0 victory in the series opener on Tuesday.
Matt Albers (0-0, 3.00 ERA) will take the mound for the Astros on Wednesday. Albers gave up two runs and six runs in six innings in a 6-5 win at Milwaukee last Friday, but did not figure in the decision.
With only two starts last season, the 24-year-old righthander is making his first career appearance against Pittsburgh. Prior to Albers' promotion last week, he went 1-1 with a 6.23 ERA in three games for Class AAA Round Rock.
Pittsburgh's Zach Duke (1-2, 9.00) hopes for a better result after two horrific outings. The lefthander has allowed 14 runs and 18 hits in only six innings combined in his last two starts.
Duke is 0-3 with a 4.85 ERA in five career starts against Houston.
Pittsburgh opened the season with a three-game series sweep in Houston and has half of its wins against the National League Central.
The Pirates last won five straight against Houston in 1991.
- jtlynchjr I switched over to it when I got the alert and then was alternating among that, the extra-innings Indians game, and the Anaheim-Vancouver hockey game. Bottom of the 16th was pretty interesting in and of itself. Pirates got a runner to third with one out, only to lose him in a rundown, then got runners on the corners and almost lost the lead runner to pickoff before winning. Excellent demonstration of the site's value, though, because I wouldn't have thought to look.
