Red Sox seek to complete two-game sweep of Orioles
Apr 26, 2007 - 2:35 PM Boston (13-7) at Baltimore (11-10) 7:05 pm EDTBALTIMORE (Ticker) -- With another weekend series against the New York Yankees on the horizon, the Boston Red Sox first must complete a two-game series against the Baltimore Orioles.
Boston has won six of its last eight games, including a sweep of the Yankees last weekend and a 6-1 victory here on Wednesday to increase its win total to 13 - two more than any team in the American League.
Josh Beckett (4-0, 2.55 ERA) starts Thursday for the Red Sox. The 26-year-old Texan has won each of his first four starts this season, allowing more than one earned run just once.
Beckett struck out seven in a win last Saturday against New York, yielding four earned runs in 6 2/3 innings.
Adam Loewen (2-0, 3.72) gets the challenge of cooling off the Red Sox. The 23-year-old lefthander picked up a win last Saturday against Toronto, surrendering two runs in 5 2/3 innings.
Loewen struggled against Boston last season, allowing 13 runs and 15 hits in 13 innings over his last three starts.
The Red Sox have scored 36 runs in their last six wins.
Boston has won 21 of the last 24 meetings with the Orioles, including 11 of 13 here, since September 2005.
