Mariners go for fourth straight win

Apr 27, 2007 - 1:58 PM Kansas City (7-15) at Seattle (8-9) 10:05 pm EDT

SEATTLE (Ticker) - The Seattle Mariners seek their season-high fourth straight win Friday when they host the Kansas City Royals.

After enduring a six-game losing streak in which they allowed 43 runs, the Mariners have given up just six runs in winning their last three contests.

Jarrod Washburn tossed a three-hit shutout on Wednesday and Miguel Batista pitched 5 1/3 solid innings Thursday to close out a two-game sweep of Oakland.

Horacio Ramirez (1-1, 6.30 ERA) attempts to match his Washburn and Batista when he takes the mound for the Mariners. The lefthander got knocked around in his last start against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Saturday, yielding six runs in four innings.

The 27-year-old spent the first four years of his career in Atlanta before being acquired in the offseason for reliever Rafael Soriano. He never has faced the Royals.

Kansas City counters with Jorge De La Rosa (2-1, 3.04). The 26-year-old righthander did not allow an earned run in eight innings last Sunday to pick up a win against Minnesota. He struck out four and retired 16 in a row at one point.

The Royals have lost three of their last four games. They are tied with Washington for baseball's worst record.
