Red-hot Pirates aim for fifth straight win

Apr 27, 2007 - 2:25 PM Cincinnati (10-12) at Pittsburgh (10-10) 7:05 pm EDT

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Looking for their longest April winning streak in five seasons, the Pittsburgh Pirates host the Cincinnati Reds on Friday.

The Pirates have won four straight games, their longest streak in April since a six-game run in 2002.

On Thursday, the Pirates completed a three-game sweep of Houston with a 5-3 victory. Jason Bay and Ryan Doumit each delivered two-run singles.

The Reds have lost six of their last eight games, including Thursday's 7-5 setback to St. Louis. Cincinnati played without right fielder Ken Griffey Jr., who was sidelined with a sore chest.

The Red aim to turn it around behind Eric Milton (0-3, 4.32 ERA), who is looking for his first win this season.

Milton is 1-5 with a 7.11 ERA in 11 career starts vs. the Pirates.

Pittsburgh counters with Ian Snell (1-1, 2.00), who has been impressive so far this campaign. In his last outing, the 25-year-old righthander did not figure in the decision in a 7-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday, despite allowing just two runs and five hits in seven innings.
