Mets aim to continue dominance of Nationals
Apr 27, 2007 - 2:30 PM NY Mets (13-7) at Washington (7-15) 7:05 pm EDTWASHINGTON (Ticker) - The New York Mets look to continue their dominance of the Washington Nationals on Friday when the National League East Division foes meet in the opener of a three-game series.
The Mets have won 13 of the last 14 meetings between the teams since the club moved to the nation's capital from Montreal prior to the 2005 season. New York outscored Washington, 56-18, in winning eight of nine games last season at RFK Stadium.
The Mets look for more success behind Oliver Perez (2-1, 3.31 ERA), who will be aiming for his second straight stellar outing. The lefthander yielded two runs and nine hits in 6 2/3 innings in a 7-2 win over Atlanta on Saturday.
It was a much-needed outing for the erratic Perez, who could not get out of the third inning in his previous start - allowing three runs, seven walks in 2 2/3 innings against Philadelphia.
Washington counters with rookie Matt Chico (1-2, 6.38), who also lost his control in his last start. The righthander issued seven walks, five runs and six hits in 4 2/3 innings in a 9-3 loss at Florida on Saturday.
The Nationals snapped a four-game losing streak on Thursday with a 4-2 win over Philadelphia. Dmitri Young homered and Ryan Church drove in two runs.
