Astros look to find their offense at home against Brewers
Apr 27, 2007 - 2:37 PM Milwaukee (13-8) at Houston (9-12) 8:05 pm EDTHOUSTON (Ticker) -- The Houston Astros hope to avoid their seventh straight loss Friday when they meet the Milwaukee Brewers in the opener of a three-game series.
Coming off a disappointing 3-6 road trip in which they failed to score more than four runs in any game, the Astros must be happy to see the Brewers.
The Astros are 20-5 at home against the Brewers over the past three-plus seasons, never losing back-to-back games in that span. Milwaukee also has never won any of the 17 series it has played at Minute Maid Park since the venue opened in the 2000 season.
Houston looks to ace Roy Oswalt (3-1, 3.34 ERA) to end its struggles. The righthander allowed four runs and seven hits in seven innings of a 4-3 loss to the Brewers on Sunday. He had won nine straight decisions dating to August 23.
Oswalt is 11-7 with a 3.48 ERA in 21 career starts against Milwaukee.
The Brewers send Chris Capuano (3-0, 3.68) to the mound in hopes of giving the beleaguered clubs bullpen some rest. Capuano made his longest start of the season last Saturday against the Astros, allowing four runs and four hits with six walks and six strikeouts over six innings in a 6-4 win.
Milwaukee relievers have pitched 66 2/3 innings after throwing 14 frames during the course of their three-game series with the Cubs. Since Ben Sheets' complete-game shutout on Opening Day against the Dodgers, the Brewers' bullpen has pitched an average of 3 1/3 innings a game.
Capuano is 3-3 with a 4.19 ERA in seven career starts against the Astros.
Milwaukee took two of three games from Houston last weekend.
