Red Sox aim to continue dominance over hated Yankees

BRONX, New York (Ticker) - In the renewal of their heated rivalry this season, the Boston Red Sox have had the edge in pitching experience over the New York Yankees. Saturday's matchup appears to be the same.

Looking for their fourth win in five games over the Yankees, the Red Sox sent 40-year-old knuckleballer Tim Wakefield against rookie Jeff Karstens.

Wakefield (2-2, 2.08 ERA) has made 484 career appearances - including 343 starts - in the majors. In his last outing against Toronto on Monday, he allowed four runs - three earned - and eight hits with five strikeouts over six innings, taking the loss.

For his career, Wakefield is 9-13 with a 4.60 ERA in 42 appearances - including 25 starts - against the Yankees. Only Derek Jeter has performed well against the righthander over the course of this rivalry, hitting .321 (26-for-81).

Karstens (0-1, 14.54) will be making just his eighth career start. The righthander was beaten by Boston in his first start of the season a week ago, surrendering seven runs and nine hits with two walks and a strikeout.
