Cubs go for season-high third straight win vs. Cards

ST. LOUIS (Ticker) - The Chicago Cubs go for a season-high third straight win Saturday when they face the rival St. Louis Cardinals in a nationally televised game.

In the season's first month, the Cubs have won two in a row just twice, beating Milwaukee on April 6-7 and Milwaukee and St. Louis in their last two games.

Chicago will hand the ball to ace Carlos Zambrano (1-2, 6.91 ERA), who got off to a rough start this season, surrendering 19 runs in 22 innings over his first four starts.

The burly righthander settled down Monday, yielding two runs in 5 1/3 innings and receiving no decision against the Brewers.

Zambrano has been tough on St. Louis in the past, holding sluggers Albert Pujols, Scott Rolen and Jim Edmonds to a combined .200 average (22-for-110) with 13 RBI.

The Cardinals will counter with Adam Wainwright (1-1, 5.04). After two strong starts to open the season, the 25-year-old righthander allowed 11 hits and seven runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Cubs on Sunday.

The teams have split their first four meetings this season.
