Blue Jays look to snap two-game skid vs. Texas

Apr 29, 2007 - 2:32 PM Texas (10-13) at Toronto (11-12) 1:07 pm EDT

TORONTO (Ticker) - Tomo Ohka takes to the hill on Sunday for the Blue Jays, who are looking to snap a two-game losing streak against the Texas Rangers.

Ohka (1-2, 6.23 ERA) got his first win of the season by holding Boston to three runs - two earned - and six hits in five innings in a 7-3 win on Tuesday.

He will be opposed by Brandon McCarthy (1-3, 9.00), who was skipped in the rotation last week because of a rainout on Tuesday. It was probably a good thing, since he has not been sharp his last few outings. The converted reliever has lost his last two starts pitching just three innings total and allowing 12 runs and 10 hits.

Michael Young will be the Rangers' designated hitter so that he can get a break from the artificial turf of the Rogers Centre. Mark Teixeira served in that role Saturday night and went 3-for-4 with a double and home run.

Young is statistically the best DH around. Young is a career .467 hitter (28-for-60) at designated hitter with six doubles, three home runs and 14 RBI in 13 games. He owns the highest batting average for any DH with at least 50 at-bats at the position.

Meanwhile the Rangers have pretty famous DH of their own and his name is Sammy Sosa. Sosa has hit a power surge recently going 8-for-19 with three home runs and seven RBI in his last five games. He is just five homers shy of 600 for his career.

The Rangers rallied for a 9-8 win on Saturday with three runs in the ninth off new Toronto closer Jason Frasor and won it on a sacrifice fly from Hank Blalock in the 10th.
