Sabathia takes mound for red-hot Indians

May 1, 2007 - 3:06 PM Toronto (13-12) at Cleveland (14-8) 7:05 pm EDT

CLEVELAND (Ticker) - Looking to rebound from his worst outing of the season, C.C. Sabathia takes the mound for the Cleveland Indians in the opener of a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.

In his last outing, Sabathia (3-0, 3.18 ERA) faced the minimum through five innings, then slipped up and allowed five runs and six straight hits. His final line was five runs and seven hits in six innings against Texas on Wednesday in a no-decision.

Sabathia opened the season with three straight wins but has not picked up a decision in his last three outings. He is trying to become the first Indians starter to go 4-0 since Cliff Lee in 2004.

Cleveland has won seven of eight and is averaging over six runs in its last six games.

The Blue Jays, who have won five of seven, will counter by sending A.J. Burnett (2-1, 4.18) to the mound. Burnett was outstanding in his last start, throwing seven effective innings and allowing just four hits in a 6-0 win over New York on Thursday.
