Pelfrey hoping to notch first win vs. Marlins
May 1, 2007 - 3:08 PM Florida (12-3) at NY Mets (15-9) 7:10 pm EDTFLUSHING, New York (Ticker) -- Mike Pelfrey can breathe a sigh of relief. His spot in the rotation is secure for now.
Pelfrey (0-2, 7.90 ERA) takes the mound looking for his first win on Tuesday as the New York Mets continue their three-game series with the Florida Marlins.
Despite being hit hard in his last two starts, Pelfrey will remain in the rotation for the foreseeable future after Orlando Hernandez was placed on the disabled list with bursitis in his right shoulder on Monday.
The Mets would like to see a better outing from Pelfrey, who was rocked by Colorado for six runs and eight hits in three innings in an 11-5 loss on Wednesday.
Pelfrey will be opposed by Ricky Nolasco (0-0, 20.25), who is returning from elbow inflammation that has sidelined him since April 7. Nolasco pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief and allowed three runs and three hits against Philadelphia in a 8-2 loss on April 6.
The righthander has a tough task at hand in his first start back. Nolasco was 0-3 against New York last season, giving up 19 earned runs and 26 hits in 8 2/3 innings.
Florida took the series opener, 9-6, on Monday night, scoring five times in the third inning off spot starter Chan Ho Park.
