Diamondbacks looks to start new streak in series finale
May 2, 2007 - 1:18 PM Arizona (16-12) at LA Dodgers (16-11) 3:10 pm EDTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers ended the Arizona Diamondbacks' six-game winning streak. Now they will try to solve Doug Davis.
Davis and the Diamondbacks look to start a new winning streak Wednesday when they meet the Dodgers in the rubber game of a three-game set.
Hardly known for his control, Davis (2-2, 2.79 ERA) has yet to allow a run to Los Angeles en route to winning both of his career starts against the club. The lefthander, who has twice finished second in the National League in walks, has surrendered just three and struck out 11 in 15 scoreless innings against the Dodgers.
Due in large part to a lack of run support, Davis has lost both of his road starts this season despite posting a 1.64 ERA in those outings. In a home start last Friday, Davis tossed a season-high seven innings, allowing one run in a 3-2 win over the San Francisco Giants.
The Dodgers posted a 2-1 victory over Arizona last Tuesday, improving to 14-0 in games in which they were tied or ahead after eight innings. Pinch-hitter Olmedo Saenz delivered a walk-off single to secure the victory.
Mark Hendrickson (1-0, 1.66) will take the mound for Los Angeles. The 6-9 lefthander has yielded one run in each of his starts - both Dodger victories - since replacing Jason Schmidt, who went on the disabled list on April 17.
Hendrickson gave up one run and two hits with two walks over five innings Friday but did not earn a decision in the Dodgers' 6-5 win at San Diego. He is 2-1 with a 4.95 ERA in four career games against Arizona.
The Diamondbacks might be without third baseman Chad Tracy after he left Tuesday's game in the third inning because of a sore muscle in his back.
