Indians try to maintain torrid scoring pace

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- The Cleveland Indians seek their ninth win in 10 games when they host the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.

The Indians have hit 12 homers and outscored opponents, 62-37 in their last nine games.

Cleveland, which had crossed the plate just 36 times in 10 games before the recent surge, improved to 9-3 at Jacobs Field with Tuesday's victory at Jacobs Field, where it has won 10 of 11 against Toronto, dating to 2003.

Jake Westbrook (1-2, 7.96 ERA) hopes to follow up his first win of the year with another solid outing when he takes the mound for Cleveland. He allowed three runs in 6 1/3 innings as the Indians beat Baltimore, 5-4 on Friday.

Westbrook is 1-0 with a 4.05 ERA in his last two starts after opening the season 0-2 with a 12.08 ERA in his first three. Westbrook is 2-2 with a 4.70 ERA in seven career games - five starts - against Toronto.

The Blue Jays, who have won five of their last eight contests, hope to rebound as Victor Zambrano (0-1, 5.06) makes his first start of the season. He has yielded three runs in 5 1/3 innings over six relief appearances.

The oft-injured righthander was 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in five starts in 2006 before undergoing season-ending elbow surgery in May. Zambrano, who has not faced the Indians since May 2004, is 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA in two career starts against Cleveland.

In Tuesday's loss, the Blue Jays hit three first-inning solo home runs, marking the 25th time in franchise history that Toronto has hit three home runs in the same inning.
