Weaver, Angels face lowly Royals

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- Jered Weaver will look for his second straight impressive performance for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, who will look to get back on track when they take on the Kansas City Royals on Thursday.

The Angels had their season-high four-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday in a 3-1 loss to the Royals in the middle game of a three-game series. Esteban German hit his first career home run and Jorge De La Rosa pitched seven strong innings in the rain-soaked victory.

It was just the second loss in the last nine games for Anaheim, which will look to get back to its winning ways behind Weaver (1-2, 5.40 ERA), who tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings in a 3-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox last Saturday. The young righthander allowed six hits and no walks while striking out five.

It was a welcomed performance for Weaver, who began the season on the disabled list as he recovered from biceps tendinitis. He looked rusty upon his return, allowing 11 runs - eight earned - in 7 2/3 innings in his first two starts, both losses.

Weaver has fared well against the Royals in his brief career, posting a 2-0 mark with a 0.66 ERA in two starts.

He will be opposed by Gil Meche (2-1, 2.18), who so far has lived up to his five-year, $55 million free-agent contract. In his last start, the righthander yielded three runs - none earned - and 10 hits in six innings in an 8-3 victory over Seattle on Saturday.

Kansas City, which snapped a three-game skid on Wednesday, aims for back-to-back wins for the just the second time this season.
