Mets seek 12th straight win at Arizona

May 4, 2007 - 1:14 PM NY Mets (17-10) at Arizona (16-14) 9:40 pm EDT

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks do not like when the New York Mets come to town.

The Mets have won their last 11 games in the desert, including a 9-4 victory here on Thursday.

In the 11 games, the Mets have outscored the Diamondbacks, 93-24.

New York erupted for six runs in the ninth inning on Thursday. Jose Valverde came in to close the game and surrendered a three-run homer to Damion Easley which gave the Mets the lead. David Wright added a three-run homer.

John Maine (4-0, 1.35 ERA) will take the ball for New York. The righthander, who turns 26 years old on May 8, has yielded just five earned runs in 33 1/3 innings over five starts.

Maine on Wednesday was named the National League pitcher of the month for April.

The Diamondbacks will counter with five-time Cy Young Award winner Randy Johnson (0-1, 6.55). The lanky lefthander was solid in his last outing, allowing three runs - two earned - in six innings last Sunday against San Francisco, but did not factor in the decision.

The 43-year-old Johnson will be making his third start of the season after sitting out spring training and most of the first month following offseason back surgery.
