Skidding Blue Jays, Rangers face off
May 4, 2007 - 3:15 PM Toronto (13-15) at Texas (10-18) 8:05 pm EDTARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) -- The Toronto Blue Jays aim to snap a three-game losing streak when they take on the equally struggling Texas Rangers in the opener of a three-game set on Friday.
The teams split a four-game series, which ended with the Blue Jays taking the final contest on Monday. However, Toronto then was swept by the Cleveland Indians, including a 6-5 loss Thursday.
Losers of four of their last six games entering Thursday's contest, the Blue Jays stormed to a 4-0 lead, scoring twice in both the second and third innings but could not hold the lead.
It has been even worse for Texas, which has lost five straight, including being swept by the New York Yankees following a doubleheader on Thursday.
Slugger Sammy Sosa combined to go 3-for-5 in the twinbill but had to leave in the sixth inning of the second game after being nailed by a pitch in the side of his helmet.
Texas will look to snap its skid behind the struggling Brandon McCarthy (1-4, 9.90 ERA), who allowed five runs and six hits in just three innings of a 7-3 loss at Toronto on Sunday.
He will be opposed by Tomo Ohka (2-2, 5.02), who had his best start of the season Sunday, yielding just one run and five hits in a season-high seven innings in a 7-3 win over the Rangers.
Toronto has dropped 19 of its last 24 games against Texas in Arlington.
