RHP Wells looks to beat Astros once again

ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- Kip Wells is looks to get back on track against the team he beat for his only win of the season.

Wells takes the hill for the St. Louis Cardinals Saturday afternoon in the second game of a three-game series with the Houston Astros.

The righthander shutdown the Astros on April 8, allowing just one hit with seven strikeouts in seven innings.

However, since then Wells (1-5, 5.65 ERA) lost four straight starts surrendering 26 runs in his last 23 2/3 innings.

Albert Pujols helped the Cardinals snap a five-game skid and avoid their worst start in 34 years by hitting a two-out two-run double in the fifth inning of a 3-2 victory on Friday.

The Astros, who have failed to score more than four runs in 11 of their last 13 games, will send Matt Albers to the mound on short rest.

Albers (0-1, 5.02) was bumped up in the rotation because Chris Sampson (sinus infection) missed his start on Friday night.

Albers was roughed up in his last start allowing six runs - three earned - and eight hits in 2 1/3 innings in a 11-2 loss to Cincinnati on Tuesday.
