Devil Rays look to take series from Athletics

May 6, 2007 - 3:05 PM Oakland (14-15) at Tampa Bay (14-16) 1:40 pm EDT

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) -- The Tampa Bay Devil Rays will see if they get the best of the Oakland Athletics once again.

The Devil Rays look to take their third straight series and second from the Athletics when they wrap up a three-game set on Sunday.

Tampa Bay bounced back from a 5-2 loss in the opener the day before with a 3-2 victory in 12 innings on Saturday. Ty Wigginton hit the tying home run off Huston Street in the ninth inning and Brendan Harris plated on the winning run on a two-out single.

Edwin Jackson (0-4, 7.36 ERA) takes the mound for the Devil Rays looking to forget his last start in which he lasted only 1 1/3 innings. The righthander was roughed up for six runs - four earned - and five hits in his shortest outing of his career, a 9-1 loss to Minnesota on Tuesday.

Jackson has never faced Oakland.

Athletics starter Joe Blanton (2-1, 3.83) will attempt to turn around his struggles against the Devil Rays. The righthander is 1-2 with a 6.94 ERA in five career starts vs. Tampa Bay.

A 16-game winner last season, Blanton gave up four runs and six hits in seven innings in his last start Tuesday, a 5-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox that he did not factor into.

Nick Swisher has returned to the Oakland lineup and is swinging a hot bat. He hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in the opener and added two hits an RBI on Saturday. He had been out since April 24 with a left hamstring injury before coming back on Wednesday.
